SMART Reading is seeking volunteers to help kids with reading during the current school year.
Since 1992, SMART Reading has helped more than 334,000 Oregon children to build reading skills and a lifelong love of books. This year, SMART plans to serve over 1,300 students and give away more than 18,000 books in Coos, Curry and Douglas counties, ensuring that kids have the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Readers just need to commit to one hour a week to read with a child or classroom in a local school. No special experience is required, and all training is provided. Site coordinators lead the way by organizing reading sessions at local sites. This role requires two to eight hours per week.
