Roseburg Police jailed a man for a reported theft from a business on Thursday afternoon.

An RPD report said at 1:30 p.m. the 48-year-old was contacted regarding a theft at a store in the 1300 block of Northeast Stephens Street. The suspect allegedly stole a flashlight and several packs of batteries from the business, valued at nearly $65. Officers detained him and discovered the stolen merchandise in his backpack. His parole officer authorized a detainer. The man was charged with third-degree theft and parole violation. He was detained on $1,250 bail.
