Roseburg Police jailed a man for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on Sunday morning.

An RPD report said just after 6:20 a.m. a victim called dispatch and said her SUV had been stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Sunshine Road. The victim advised that the man who had taken it had been staying with her for about a month, and when she woke up, both the man and the vehicle were missing. She said the suspect did not have permission to drive her vehicle and had never driven it before.

The vehicle was seen about fifteen minutes later by a FLOCK camera at the intersection of Southeast Stephens Street and Southeast Rice Avenue. Later in the day officers were dispatched to the area of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard and Northeast Rifle Range Road after the vehicle was seen going eastbound. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the SUV a short time later in the 100 block of Sunshine Road, near where it had been taken from.

Officers contacted the 44-year-old driver who admitted to driving the vehicle for a few hours. He was taken into custody and detained without bail.
