Roseburg Police jailed a man for violation of a restraining order on Wednesday.

An RPD report said at 6:30 p.m. officers responded after a caller said a suspicious man was walking with a firearm in the 900 block of West Stanton Street. Officers located the 39-year-old who admitted to walking down the street with a pistol to look for a suspicious vehicle.

Officers learned the man was the respondent in a restraining order, which prohibited him from possessing firearms. The suspect was taken into custody. Officers located a backpack which allegedly contained a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol. The man was detained without bail.
