A Drain man was jailed following a reported burglary and theft incident on Monday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 1:40 p.m. a deputy responded to the incident in the 300 block of Grimes Drive in the Drain area. The reporting party advised that a family member had passed away, and their property had been checked a week earlier, with everything found to be secure.

On Monday, all doors were found open and the ignition on a vehicle appeared to have been tampered with. The reporting party said a large amount of jewelry and two wooden jewelry boxes were missing, but the exact amount and value were not known.

The victim later called back to say there was a vehicle at the house. It was stopped and the occupants were identified, and stolen property was allegedly visible from the passenger side window.

49-year-old William Gardner was taken into custody without incident. Gardner was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of second-degree theft and for second-degree criminal mischief. Gardner was detained without bail.
