The Emigrant Fire, burning south of Oakridge in portions of Douglas County, is now 51% contained according to the latest updates from the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 on Wednesday.
The lightning-caused fire has grown to 33,097 acres, , but there’s only 272 crew members left working the blaze as operation management transitions from the Rocky Mountain team to the local Middle Fork Type 3 Team on Wednesday night.
Recent rainfall has greatly reduced the fire behavior, according to Incident Commander Justin Conrad. However, heavy dead and down fuels and stump holes will continue to hold heat and smoke may be visible at times until a season-ending weather event.
Crews will continue to patrol all divisions of the fire as much of the suppression repair work has been completed.
