DFPA UPDATE ON LIGHTNING RESPONSE

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association continue to actively monitor for lightning and respond to initial fires following frequent lightning activity on Monday.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said a total of 280 lightning strikes were recorded, with ten confirmed fires caused by lightning. Pope said six of those fires are in patrol status, while firefighters continue the mop-up of four.

Contained Fires:

*Boswell Fire: Near the 1100 block of Boswell Road in the Yoncalla area.

*Little Camp Fire: Located 7 miles southwest of Elkton.

*Shively Fire: Located near the 15800 block of Tiller Trail Highway in the Days Creek area.

*Jordan Creek Fire: Located southeast of Canyonville.

*Days Creek Cut-off Fire: Located 3 miles southeast of Canyonville

*Green Mountain Fire: Located northeast of Drain.

In Mop up:

*Rainy Peak Fire: Located 7 miles southwest of Elkton. The 0.49 acres fire is currently 90 percent mopped up.

*East Fork Fire: Located 2 miles south of Milo. The single lightning-struck tree with minimal ground fire, covering 0.01 acres.

*Homestead Fire: Located 2 miles south of Milo. Crews have completed a control line around the perimeter of the single lightning-struck tree fire, with an estimated size of 0.01 acres.

*Skyline Fire: Located north of Galesville Reservoir, crews are working on the 0.22 -acre vegetation fire. Mop-up continues.

Pope said these fires pose no threat to homes or structures.
