Tammy St. Amand of Mercy Medical Center was recently honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundations programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
A Mercy release said St. Amand was selected through a nomination process.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California and was established by family members in memorial of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from a little known but non uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Mercy Chief Nursing Officer Holly Cook said, “It’s an honor to initiate this local award, and Tammy uniquely represents someone truly called to be a nurse. Her heart for others, her deep expertise and her constant patient focus shine. We are profoundly grateful to have her among us and to present her with this well-deserved award”.
CHI Mercy Health plans to honor nurses a few times a year.
