Crews with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue dealt with a fire at a home in the Green District on Friday evening.
Battalion Chief Nick Wecks said at 5:35 p.m. crews were dispatched to a reported fire in the1800 block of Austin Road. Wecks said the home’s occupant heard a loud noise and discovered heavy smoke in the residence and fire in the carport.
Initial crews on scene found a heavy fire in the carport extending into the attached home. Wecks said crews got a quick initial fire attack in the carport and as additional crews arrived, they made entry into the house to search for and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported by the firefighters working on the scene.
CDF&R responded to the fire with 4 pieces of equipment and one command unit, totaling 14 paid and volunteer personnel. Due to the heavy fire damage, Wecks said crews could not determine the cause of the fire. Crews were assisted by Avista Gas and Pacific Power.
