Tree felling operations are underway on the North Umpqua Trail.
An Umpqua National Forest release said work will be taking place over the next several weeks to clear trees for the installation of new bridges. This work will help improve trail access, but for the safety of recreators, people should avoid the area while tree mitigation is underway. Signs will be posted, and staff will be monitoring both sides of the felling area. Wood is staying on the landscape as coarse wood debris for wildlife or felled into streams for fish habitat.
The tentative work schedule is:
*Panther Segment – Stanton Creek Bridge and Panther Bridge at milepost 0.8 on September 4th and 5th and 11th and 12th
*Calf Segment – Calf Bridge on September 18th and 19th
*Panther Segment – Panther Bridge at milepost 3.8 on September 25th and 26th
*Panther Segment – Panther Bridges at mileposts 2.6 and 2.7 on October 2nd and 3rd
