Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are working on the Dads Creek Fire, in the Glendale area.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. firefighters from DFPA, South Umpqua Fire, Riddle Fire, Azalea Fire, Glendale Fire, and Tri City Fire responded to a smoke investigation located near the 30400 block of Lower Cow Creek Road.

Pope said upon arrival at the scene, a fast-moving, wind-driven fire was found in reproduction timber and grass, climbing uphill to the north and down a drainage to the east. Crews responded immediately to engage in an aggressive initial attack. The fire was estimated at 130 acres as of midday Monday.

Pope said on Monday air resources were deployed and engaged in fire suppression tactics. Additional resources arrived at the fire throughout the day on Monday. Due to the proximity of the fire, in coordination with structural fire departments and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Level 1 evacuation orders, Be Ready, have been issued for all addresses between the 30400 and 31300 blocks of Lower Cow Creek Road.

The cause of the Dads Creek Fire is under investigation.

Pope said it is crucial that Unmanned Aircraft Systems, or drones are not flown over or near wildfires. Unauthorized drone flights pose serious risk to firefighters, public safety, and wildfire suppression efforts.
