A Grants Pass man was jailed for two counts of reckless burning early Saturday.
An Oregon State Police report said at 12:40 a.m. a trooper and emergency personnel were dispatched to milepost 49 of Highway 42 in the Camas Valley area. A reporting party had advised that they had observed a male in a dark jacket walking near some scrap wood that had been set on fire and was burning on the shoulder.
Fire personnel from the Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District checked the area but were unable to locate any fires up to the county line. While returning to their station, the crew found three small fires that had been recently and intentionally set. Each of these fires were set on objects that appeared to have been lying along the roadway and otherwise would not have caught fire.
A trooper located a male he was able to connect to the fires. 38-year-old Christopher Lokken was also charged with depositing burning material in a forest or on the highway. Lokken was detained without bail.
