HAND AND DOZER LINE 100 PERCENT COMPLETE ON SUGAR LOAF FIRE

August 31, 2025 2:00 p.m.

Hand and dozer lines are 100 percent complete on the Sugar Loaf Fire in the Cottage Grove Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest, as of midday on Sunday.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 13 said firefighters are now working to mop up those lines from a 20-foot width to 50, using a system of water sources and hoses to fully extinguish any lingering heat that poses a threat to containment.

Aviation resources are assisting firefighters on the ground as smoke conditions allow. As mop up progresses and containment increase, some resources will be reassigned to the Emigrant Fire suppression operation.

Complex fire managers anticipate returning responsibility for the incident to the Umpqua National Forest on Monday.
