The Sugar Loaf Fire remains at 46 acres in the Cottage Grove Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest.
An update from NW Incident Management Team 13 said three Interagency Hotshot crews and three Type 2 crews with specialized training are directly attacking the fire to minimize the number of acres burned. Firefighters are being assisted by air resources to slow progression of the fire in order to build containment lines.
On Wednesday, firefighters worked on the eastern flank, preventing growth from reaching the Wyatt Creek drainage. Firefighters were able to open roads to the north and south of the fire perimeter to use as primary control lines.
Resources continue to face hazards as the fire burns on steep, rough and rugged terrain with overhead hazards. Contingency lines are also being established. The operational goal is to have direct and indirect lines around the fire perimeter by early next week.
The forest is in High fire danger and Level 2 Public Use Restrictions are in effect.
