Complex Incident Management Team Northwest 13 assumed command of the Sugar Loaf Fire on Tuesday night.
The fire is just east of Sugarloaf Mountain on the Cottage Grove Ranger District.
The fire is 46 acres with zero percent containment as of midday Wednesday. Crews are anchoring off the 850 Road, going direct to flank the fire from the east and west. Efforts will focus on keeping the fire out of the Wyatt Creek drainage on the east side. Six hand crews are working in rugged terrain with a high risk of rollout.
This is a full suppression incident. Primary objectives are to protect infrastructure and natural resources and prevent the fire from spreading onto privately owned timber lands.
The Umpqua National Forest is in high fire danger and Level 2 Public Use Restrictions are in effect.
