The News Review is reporting that on Monday, 32-year-old Johnathan James Dowdy of Coos Bay, pleaded guilty to multiple crimes in his vehicle’s collision with the Umpqua Community College softball team’s bus near Myrtle Point on April 18th. That crash took the lives of 19-year-old Kiley Jones and head coach Jami Strinz and injured several others.

According to John Blanc, deputy district attorney with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Dowdy is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11th in Coos County Circuit Court. There is a stipulated sentencing agreement between the parties which has not yet been disclosed.

Dowdy pled guilty to two counts of second-degree manslaughter, three counts of a heightened version of third-degree assault, five counts of fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and driving while suspended, according to Blanc.

Dowdy remains in the custody of the Coos County Jail without the possibility of bail, pending sentencing, as his custody is not listed as a hold for the State Department of Corrections.
