A Canyonville man was jailed for a felony count of failure to register as a sex offender on Monday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 11:30 a.m. a deputy contacted the man regarding an animal issue in the 200 block of Southwest Frontage Road. The deputy learned that the man had lived at the location for several months and had never reported that his address had changed.

The manager of the property provided paperwork proving the man’s residency. The deputy recontacted the 71-year-old man who reportedly admitted to being lazy and not reporting. He was taken into custody and detained without bail.
