Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with the Dole Knob Fire on Wednesday afternoon.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was called in at around 1:30 p.m. South Umpqua Fire Department, Myrtle Creek Fire, and the Cow Creek Tribal Police also responded to an estimated 1-acre fire near the 500 block of Northeast Dole Road in Myrtle Creek.

Pope said upon arriving at the scene, crews discovered a grass fire spreading rapidly uphill. All responding firefighters took immediate action, including DFPA’s air attack, one type 2 helicopter, three type 6 engines, two type 3 engines, a dozer and overhead command. Pope said the coordinated effort by everyone involved quickly contained the fire, limiting its growth to 2.63 acres.

The Dole Knob Fire posed no threat to homes or structures. It has been identified as human-caused but is still under investigation.

Pope said the fire danger is currently extreme throughout the Douglas District. Information on fire restrictions is available at www.dfpa.net
