Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Coos Forest Protective Association responded to a fire near Burnt Mountain Access Road, north of Tenmile, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Friday afternoon.
DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was initially estimated at 1.5 acres and was moving in slash and timber on steep terrain. Pope said ground crews used DFPA’s dozer to open an old logging road to gain quicker access for responding ground personnel. That included DFPA’s resources of one Type 2 engine, two Type 6 engines, one Type 3 engine, and overhead command. DFPA’s aerial resources, including air attack, three helicopters and a large air tanker, were used to hold the fire’s growth.
Pope said as of early Friday evening, the fire was estimated at 10-acres, in a non-active logging unit, approximately 8.3 miles northwest of Tenmile. The Burnt Mountain Fire poses no threat to structures or homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it has been determined to be human caused.
