A Canyonville woman was taken to the hospital after allegedly eluding deputies on Sunday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 10:50 a.m. a deputy observed a sedan passing other vehicles using the center median on Nonpareil Road near Plat A road near Sutherlin. Once the deputy got behind the vehicle with his lights and siren on, the driver allegedly attempted to elude. Sutherlin Police assisted and called the pursuit until it reached the dead end on South State Street.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver was given commands but was able to maneuver between patrol vehicles and eluded again. The sedan continued on Nonpareil Road until the end of the roadway where the vehicle intentionally turned into the brush at the side of the road before a gate.

The vehicle was pinned to prevent further escape. The 37-year-old driver was not cooperative with commands. The woman was reportedly observed taking multiple bottles of medications in the vehicle and appeared manic and under the influence of drugs. Deputies broke out the passenger window to remove her from the vehicle, at which point she was observed holding up two knives above her shoulder, prepared to stab. A taser was deployed and the woman dropped the knives. She became cooperative and was taken into custody.

The driver was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle and reckless driving. She was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
