Roseburg Police are continuing an investigation into a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday.

An RPD report released late Friday said just before 10:00 a.m. officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Northeast Stephens Street and Northeast Stewart Parkway. Witnesses and video surveillance disclosed that the driver of a sedan appeared to be speeding as he drove southbound on Northeast Stephens, in the left turn lane, and ran a red light before continuing to drive southbound and crashing head-on into another sedan, which was headed northbound on Northeast Stephens, and was attempting to turn left onto Northeast Stewart Parkway.

Both drivers were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The driver who caused the wreck was later life-flighted to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield for various injuries. The second driver sustained a broken ankle and was initially in critical condition for internal bleeding. She is listed in stable condition at last check according to a Mercy spokesperson.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage with airbag deployments. Oregon State Police responded and conducted an accident reconstruction report. The southbound lanes of Northeast Stephens were closed for several hours. The vehicles were seized as evidence.

No further information has been released by RPD.
