A driver was cited and hospitalized, and a passenger was taken to a hospital following a two-vehicle hit and run accident on Monday night.

An Oregon State Police report said just after 5:40 p.m. the incident occurred on Interstate Five southbound a mile south of the Canyon Creek Summit. A sedan reportedly drove recklessly on the shoulder of the freeway and sideswiped a pickup upon merging back into a lane of travel. The sedan sped off and later lost control, rolling multiple times with both the female driver and a male passenger being ejected. The male passenger was conscious but was air transported to a Medford area hospital.

The female driver attempted to elude the scene by crossing over to the northbound shoulder. She hid but located later by deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The woman showed indicators of drug use and admitted to such. She was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for injuries sustained. At Mercy, two blood draws were executed. Afterwords she was issued multiple criminal citations. The woman, identified as 28-year-old Megan Mitchell, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person and failure to perform the duties of a driver in a collision with property damage. She was released into the care of the hospital
