Oregon State Police jailed a 19-year-old man after his vehicle hit a tow truck driver on Friday night.
An OSP report said just after 6:00 p.m. troopers and emergency services responded to the area of Highway 138E near milepost 8 after a caller said there had been an injury hit and run crash.
Troopers determined that a tow truck was being recovered by another tow truck near the top of the hill. The rear tow vehicle had its overhead amber lights illuminated and was directing traffic from the right to left lanes. The operators had approximately 5 to 7 cones and triangles out behind them. While outside their vehicle, one of the tow truck operators was struck by a passing motorist. The driver continued down the road, pulled over, then left the scene.
The report said the driver then returned with a family member and provided statements. Connor Rondeau was charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver in a collision with an injury, reckless driving, and third-degree assault. Rondeau was detained without bail.
The tow truck driver hit sustained significant injuries to the right arm, right hip and right leg.
