Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are progressing with their work on the Kent Creek and Porter Creek fires, southwest of Dillard.
DFPA Acting Public Information Officer Nic Freeman said the fires were first reported at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Freeman said the Kent Creek Fire was found to be a half-acre. DFPA worked in connection with the Bureau of Land Management. A diligent and quick response from crews allowed them to catch the fire at a half-acre. The fire is 100 percent lined and mopped up as of early Friday morning with minimal threat to fire growth and will continue to be monitored for hot spots in the area.
Freeman said for the Porter Creek Fire, DFPA sent fire engines, crews and a landowner tender. The fire was found to be a half-acre. As of early Friday morning, crews have the fire 100 percent lined, and 85 percent mopped up. It is one acre in size after a more accurate GPS mapping of the fire. DFPA crews will continue operational engagement until the fire is 100 percent mopped up.
Freeman said the cause of both fires is currently under investigation.
