The deadline is near to submit grant applications for funding from the Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby.
A release said thanks to the generous support of sponsors, all proceeds from this year’s Derby will remain in Douglas County, directly benefiting river restoration and fish enhancement projects throughout the Umpqua River Basin.
Applications are due this Friday at 5:00 p.m. Award notification will be made by July 1st with the deadline to complete projects set for June 30th, 2026. Typical grants range from $1,000 to $5,000, however all projects will be considered.
The project selection criteria include:
*Projects on private land are strongly encouraged
*Clear potential to meet multiple resource management goals
*Demonstrated cost-sharing with funds, services and in-kind contributions
*Feasibility of completion within grant timeframe
*Direct improvements to habitat or fish passage
*Priority will be given to applications that focus on wild salmon, steelhead, or trout populations
The release said the Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby continues to strengthen the community through hands-on conservation, partnership and a shared commitment to the long-term health of local fisheries.
