May 23, 2025 3:05 a.m.

Douglas CARES will host a community open house on Friday, May 30th.

The non-profit organization has been providing a safe space for children in Douglas County enduring abuse and neglect, to share their stories for 30 years. Executive Director Sarah Wickersham said, “Douglas CARES is not just a child advocacy center; we’re a pillar of support for children and families impacted by abuse”.

Wickersham said CARES would like to show the community who they are and what services they provide for Douglas County children to help them begin the healing journey from trauma to a happy, healthy childhood.

At the open house, community members can come tour the new space, learn about the organization, ways to support the work it does, and volunteer opportunities.

Wickersham said, “We aim to inspire and educate families to recognize signs of abuse and how to create a safe, violence-free environment at home”. Wickersham said, “We believe that spreading awareness is the first step toward prevention, and we’d love for everyone to be part of this important cause”.

CARES has moved into its new building, built from the ground up for their specific use. It is located at 1939 Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg. The open house on Friday, May 30th will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tours and refreshments will be provided.
