Roseburg Police jailed a man for unauthorized use of motor vehicles following an incident that began at a car dealer on Thursday.
An RPD report said at 4:00 p.m. an employee at Clint Newell Auto Group in the 1400 block of Northeast Stephens Street, said there was suspicious activity connected to the funds associated with the purchase of a new pickup. Officers contacted 21-year-old Xzander Lamkey at the business with a new pickup, which had a motorcycle in its bed. Lamkey began to make arrangements to get the motorcycle picked up.
A second new pickup responded to Clint Newell. Officers on scene developed suspicion that the associated vehicles may have been stolen. When officers began to check on the status of the vehicles, Lamkey fled the scene. Officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and eventually located the suspect nearby. Lamkey was taken into custody at taser point.
An investigation showed that the new pickup and the motorcycle were entered as stolen out of Idaho. North Bend Police Department also had interest in Lamkey for a stolen utility terrain vehicle. Additionally, Lamkey had an extraditable warrant out of Arizona for fraud.
Lamkey was charged with three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and for the warrant. He was detained without bail. The stolen vehicles were secured at Clint Newell, pending recovery.
