Wildlife Safari has announced the arrival of four new cheetah cubs.
Marketing Coordinator Ali Shaver said three males and one female were born on April 12th to first time mom, Bam-Bam. Shaver said that Bam was also born at Wildlife Safari, making her one of the most genetically valuable cheetahs in the Species Survival Plan in North America. The SSP is a cooperative breeding program with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums aimed at ensuring the genetic diversity and long-term sustainability of endangered species like cheetahs.
Shaver said Bam gave birth to four healthy cubs following a smooth and successful labor. Each cub arrived with a strong, healthy weight, with no runts in the litter, which is an encouraging sign of their vitality and well-being. Shaver said Bam has been an attentive and nurturing mother, spending the majority of her time in the den nursing and grooming her newborns.
The release said the birth is not only a critical step for Bam-Bam but also contributes to the broader efforts of cheetah conservation, as her cubs represent an important genetic lineage. Shaver said Wildlife Safari is dedicated to advancing the care, study and preservation of cheetahs.
Bam-Bam and her cubs are now in the Cheetah Loop at Wildlife Safari. The game park in Winston is currently open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
