A Roseburg man was jailed following a hit and run incident on Tuesday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at approximately 6:30 p.m. while a victim was driving north on Highway 99 north, a sports car turned off Pioneer Way in Winchester and hit the side of the victim’s vehicle. The sports car then struck the back of the victim’s vehicle as it passed in the opposing lane. The sports car then sped off heading northbound on Highway 99 north.
The front bumper and license plate of the sports car were located at the crash site. The vehicle was later located on Highway 138E at mile post 76 unoccupied and possibly abandoned.
Wednesday morning at approximately 1:20 a.m. a deputy contacted the driver of the sports car who had been detained by Oregon State Police at Diamond Lake Resort. The man, identified as 21-year-old Heath Lethlean, admitted to being the driver who caused the hit and run accident. He was taken into custody and charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage, reckless driving, and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. Lethlean was detained on $3,000 bail.
