Starting Monday, May 5th, staff with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue will be flushing and maintaining fire hydrants in their service.
Division Chief and Fire Marshal Josh Waechter said this includes the communities of Dixonville, Green, Melrose, Winchester, Wilbur, Winston, Garden Valley, Umpqua and unincorporated areas near the City of Roseburg. Waechter said the testing will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Fridays.
During this process, water discoloration is possible depending on how bad the sediment on the water mains is, but water is still safe to drink. Residents who experience issues with their water during this time should allow water to run through the faucet until it clears.
Those who have any questions or want more information about fire hydrant flushing and testing, should contact Central Douglas Fire & Rescue at 673-5503.
