SEWAGE BY-PASS IN SUTHERLIN DUE TO STORM

March 17, 2025 10:10 a.m.

Due to an excessive amount of rainfall in the 48 hours ending Monday morning, the City of Sutherlin wastewater system was inundated by storm water causing several manholes throughout the city to experience sanitary sewer overflows, overflowing raw sewage and storm water to storm drains that discharge to Sutherlin Creek.

A city release said at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, the bypass started. It continued until around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning. Community Development Director Kristi Gilbert said city personnel have been working to clean up the affected areas.

Gilbert said the Oregon Emergency Response and Department of Environmental Quality were notified of the by-pass. Affected businesses and residents were also notified of the by-pass.
