A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Thursday night at 11:00 p.m. with a Winter Storm Watch in place from Thursday evening through Saturday morning in mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said additional snow accumulations between 5 to 15 inches with winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour are expected on Thursday with the highest amounts near Crater Lake and Diamond Lake. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow is possible with accumulations of between 12 and 24 inches.  Wind could gust as high as 45 miles per hour.

The Advisory and the Watch include the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to Crescent Lake, Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Howard Prairie and the Siskiyou Summit as well as highways 140, 62, 230 and 138.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact commute times. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
