On Wednesday, the Roseburg School Board voted to extend Superintendent Jared Cordon’s contract through June 30, 2028, citing his steadfast leadership and long-term vision for student success.
A district release said the extension, which takes effect July 1st, reflects the board’s confidence in Cordon’s ability to continue driving meaningful advancements in reading and math instruction, graduation rates and career pathway opportunities.
Since becoming superintendent in the 2019-2020 school year, Cordon has worked to implement consistent and evidence-based teaching strategies throughout the district, expand partnerships with community and industry leaders, and ensure all students have the opportunity to fully engage in their education.
School Board Chair Andrea Miner said, “Superintendent Cordon continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to our students and community”. Miner said, “He has brought a deep knowledge of instruction, leadership and innovation to our district while consistently advocating on behalf of our students”.
The release said under Cordon’s leadership, the district has strengthened its focus on early literacy and math instruction, adopting evidence-based curricula and expanding instructional support to help all students build strong foundational skills. Additionally, efforts to expand access to career pathways have resulted in growing partnerships with Umpqua Community College and local industries, providing students with hands-on learning experiences and direct connections to high-demand careers in fields like manufacturing and healthcare.
Cordon said, “It is a privilege and an honor to serve the students, families and staff of Roseburg School District”. Cordon said, “I am so grateful to live in a community that cares so deeply about students, and I am more confident than ever that we are on the right path – one that prioritizes student success, strengthens community partnerships and builds a future-ready school system”. Cordon concluded, “We have made great progress, but there is still important work ahead to ensure that every student graduates prepared for their next steps”.
