An Azalea man was jailed for menacing and weapons charges by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.
A DCSO report said at 10:15 a.m. a victim called dispatch and claimed that 75-year-old Mark Hubbs had pointed a firearm at the victim’s head on two separate occasions in the last few days. This was in the 3000 block of Upper Cow Creek Road in the Azalea area.
The caller said the dispute started over a dog fight. Hubbs broke up the dog fight but got bit on the arm. Hubbs went inside his trailer and allegedly got a silver handgun. The man admitted to having the gun but said it was to show the victim that he meant business. Hubbs admitted pointing the gun at the dog but denied pointing the gun at the victim.
Two witnesses told the deputy similar stories of Hubbs pointing the gun at the victim and saying he was going to kill him. All the witnesses were able to describe the handgun. The deputy seized the weapon as evidence.
Hubbs was charged with two counts of menacing and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. He was detained without bail.
