Covering Coastal Douglas County:
A Reedsport woman was jailed on assault and menacing charges early Sunday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at about 12:50 a.m. a neighbor said there was a disturbance in the 7500 block of US Highway 101.
When the deputy arrived, he looked through a window and could see a male with blood on his face. He saw a female that had a knife raised like she was going to stab the victim.
The deputy entered the camp trailer and separated the two adults. The woman, later identified as 26-year-old Hayley Whalen, was allegedly very intoxicated. When the deputy contacted the victim, he observed that the man had fingernail scratches on both his eyes, and on his face, arms, neck and chest. The victim also reportedly had marks on his neck which appeared to be from being choked by his tank top. The incident allegedly occurred in front of multiple minor children.
Whalen was charged with fourth-degree felony assault and for menacing. She was detained without bail.
