A semi-driver was hospitalized after his vehicle crashed on Thursday evening.
An Oregon State Police report said shortly after 5:00 p.m. troopers responded to the commercial motor vehicle accident on Highway 38 in the Scottsburg area, 14 miles east of Reedsport. An eastbound tractor trailer failed to maintain the lane of travel and caught the right side of the vehicle in the ditch. The roadway is lined with a rock wall eastbound which the CMV struck, causing significant damage.
The collision caused the CMV to cross the westbound lane and go over the embankment. The vehicle then struck a tree, entrapping the driver. After several hours the driver was extricated and transported by helicopter to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours due to the crash. Scottsburg Fire, Reedsport Fire and Lower Umpqua Ambulance assisted at the scene.
