Roseburg Police have charged a man already in jail for an alleged prior robbery.

An RPD report said the 28-year-old was a suspect in an ongoing case. Multiple witnesses said the man had punched a victim and stole his phone in the 800 block of Northwest Highland Street. Officers learned that the suspect was lodged at corrections on an unrelated case. He was contacted and Friday at 11:45 a.m. and confirmed that he was in the area during the time of the crime but denied involvement.

He was charged with third-degree robbery and fourth-degree assault. The man remains detained without bail.
