An Air Stagnation Advisory has been extended through 12:00 p.m. Friday for much of southern Oregon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said moderate air quality remains in place. This is due to an inversion and stagnant air conditions near the surface that will continue to trap pollutants.
The Advisory area includes central Douglas County, Jackson and Josephine counties and eastern Curry County. It applies to the cities of Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford and Cave Junction along with surrounding locations.
Moderate air quality may cause issues for people with respiratory problems.
Strong valley inversions, very shallow mixing layers of less than 1,000 feet, and calm winds are expected, especially during the overnight and morning hours. A weak front Thursday night into Friday may allow for a brief period of improved mixing and particulate dispersion.
State air quality agencies highly recommend that no outdoor burning occurs and that residential wood burning devices be limited as much as possible.
