HIGH SURF WARNING THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY

December 23, 2024 3:40 a.m.

Covering coastal Douglas County:

A High Surf Warning is in effect for the south-central Oregon coast through 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said dangerously high waves of 28 to 31 feet are expected.

The Warning area applies to the beaches and shorelines of Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties.

Forecasters said extremely large breaking waves will create very hazardous conditions along beaches and shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected.

The highest surf is expected through Monday afternoon. Conditions are forecast to slowly improve on Tuesday. Another round of dangerous surf conditions can be expected late Wednesday through Thursday, if not longer.

Forecasters said beaches and coastlines will become hazardous due to very large and life-threatening surf conditions.  Residents should stay off of beaches, rocks, jetties, piers and other waterside infrastructure.
