A semi-truck hauling a trailer full of U.S. mail rolled onto its side on Highway 38, one mile west of Elkton early Wednesday morning.
An Oregon State Police report said the crash happened at 2:20 a.m. at milepost 35. The driver of the westbound semi said she swerved to miss a deer. The vehicles lost control and crossed the eastbound lane of travel leading to the crash. The semi-truck and trailer damaged a speed sign and two sight posts before coming to an uncontrolled rest in a field.
U.S. Postal Service staff responded to the scene to pick up a large amount of mail that was covering the ground in the area of the vehicles. A tow company responded to recover the semi-truck and trailer. The operator was not injured and was the only occupant.
