A unit in a Roseburg apartment complex sustained structural, smoke and water damage in a fire Monday afternoon.

A Roseburg Fire Department report said shortly before 4:30 p.m. personnel responded to the fire in the 800 block of Southeast Mosher Avenue. Fire Chief Tyler Christopherson said dispatch had received a report of a kitchen fire inside a residential apartment with fire spreading to the interior walls and roof of the structure.

Christopherson said firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from a window on the backside of the multi-unit, two story apartment complex, as well as fire showing from the roof vent. Crews found a kitchen stove on fire that had spread to nearby walls and cabinets, and into the ceiling portion of the structure within the kitchen area. Christopherson said firefighters extinguished the fire and stopped the forward spread of the fire to the remaining portion of the apartment and the remaining units within the multi-unit complex. They also completed a primary and secondary search to ensure all residents were out of the structure. All residents had evacuated the home prior to firefighters arriving.

Christopherson said the damage was contained to the primary unit. Three residents lived in the apartment and were uninjured in the fire. The cause was accidental in nature and was determined to be a cooking fire. Fifteen personnel assisted with firefighting operations. RFD was assisted by Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Pacific Power, Avista Utilities and the Roseburg Police Department.
