DILLARD MAN DIES IN MYRTLE CREEK SHOOTING, ROSEBURG MAN JAILED

A Dillard man died in a shooting incident in Myrtle Creek on Saturday and a Roseburg man is in jail charged with the crime.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at about 1:35 p.m., deputies responded after a caller said there was a physical disturbance with shots fired at Rivers West RV Park in the 300 block of Ruckles Drive.

Responders located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds just south of the RV park on Booth Ranch Road. He was later identified as 29-year-old Damion Sumner. Deputies and a Myrtle Creek Police officer provided Sumner aid, but he succumbed to his wounds and was declared deceased on the scene.

22-year-old Daniel Hetrick was taken into custody nearby without incident. He was charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Hetrick was detained without bail.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated and continues to investigate. The team consists of detectives from DCSO, Roseburg Police Department, Oregon State Police and members of the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office. The Cow Creek Tribal Police Department is assisting in the investigation.
