A Tiller man was jailed for an alleged elude and resisting incident on Monday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 3:00 p.m. a deputy witnessed 38-year-old Sterling Sheets drive past him in the 100 block of Gazley Road in the Myrtle Creek area and knew his license was suspended.
The deputy turned to conduct a traffic stop and activated his emergency lights as he got behind Sheet’s vehicle. The man allegedly accelerated into the parking lot of a nearby business and immediately exited his vehicle. Sheets reportedly attempted to walk away from the deputy as he was given multiple commands to stop, and told he was not free to leave. The suspect allegedly continued to disobey lawful orders as he walked into the business.
Once other units arrived, deputies contacted Sheets inside the store and attempted to take him into custody. He reportedly immediately started to resist and fight with deputies. Sheets was taken to the ground and a taser eventually had to be deployed to gain compliance. The man was placed into custody.
He was cleared by medical personnel on the scene, Sheets was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center where he was evaluated. Once he was cleared, Sheets was transported to corrections. He was charged with attempting to elude police on foot, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental or judicial administration, and failure to carry/present an operator’s license. Sheets was cited for driving while suspended and driving uninsured. He was detained without bail.
