A Riddle area transient was jailed for an alleged soft drink theft on Wednesday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 9:00 a.m. a deputy responded to the Riddle Mini Mart in the 100-block of Main Street in Riddle. An employee said the 53-year-old has been going into the store between 10 and 30 times a day, taking a drink out of a soda bottle, putting it back, then leaving.

The employee has warned the woman of theft, but she continues to commit the crimes. While a deputy was in the store, the suspect came into the business and took a drink out of a soda bottle. The deputy asked the woman if she was going to pay for it and she said no. The employee said he wanted to press charges.

The woman was taken into custody and charged with second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft. She was detained without bail.
