The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Potential Outlook for rapid river rises and possible debris flows on area rivers and streams in western Douglas County along with Coos, Curry and Josephine counties.

Forecasters said an atmospheric river could stall across the area, bringing a long duration of moderate to heavy rain to these portions of southwestern Oregon through Wednesday. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in Curry County. At times rainfall amounts could approach an inch an hour, which means burn scars may need to be paid extra attention. Creeks and rivers are likely to see significant rises. There is also the potential for additional moderate to heavy rain Wednesday night into Friday.

Forecasters said a flood potential outlook is listed when there is the potential for significant rises or flooding in areas rivers and streams. The exact scenario for flooding remains uncertain. Watches and warnings may be issued by the National Weather Service if this situation worsens.
