A transient was jailed for an alleged criminal mischief incident early Friday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said the 58-year-old had been advised multiple times on Thursday to leave the property at Loves Travel Stop on Grant Smith Road in Green. Friday at 1:15 a.m. the suspect returned and while leaving, allegedly climbed on a stop sign, bending the entire metal pole almost to the ground.

The man was last seen walking towards Grant Smith Road. Deputies located the man later at a nearby business. The man stated that he did damage the sign, but did not think it was that big of a deal.

He was charged with second-degree counts of criminal mischief and criminal trespass. The man was detained without bail.
