The News-Review reports that the Roseburg City Council heard from numerous community members in support of City Manager Nikki Messenger during a City Council meeting Monday.
Umpqua Community College President Rachel Pokrandt, Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority General Manager Jim Baird, former employees and former members of council voiced their support for Messenger, according to the article.
Council President David Mohr asked for the council to consider the termination of Messenger during a meeting on Oct. 14. The council voted in favor of having the topic on the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
Messenger was named interim city manager in April 2019 and officially took over the role Sept. 1, 2019. Messenger did not comment during the meeting, according to The News-Review.
Council members went into an executive session immediately following the public meeting on Monday with the purpose of evaluating the city manager position. That portion of the meeting was not open to the public.
