A Grants Pass man was jailed following a police chase in a stolen vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 5:00 p.m. the stolen pickup was spotted in Roseburg driving on Lookingglass Road. 15 minutes later a Winston Police Officer saw the vehicle near Brockway Road in Winston. Deputies attempted to find the pickup but were unsuccessful.

A deputy eventually found the vehicle parked at the Dillard Store. After more deputies arrived, a traffic stop was conducted near Lookingglass Road and Main Street in Winston. The pickup immediately took off and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle, which is 24-years old, accelerated to speeds of 90 miles per hour, at times weaving through traffic attempting to evade capture. It reportedly ran several red lights and continued on Highway 99 south.

The pickup entered Interstate 5 at the milepost-120 on-ramp at a high rate of speed. Spikes were deployed at the vehicle a mile later and were successful. All tires were deflated.

The vehicle continued south for another 5 miles, essentially operating on rims. Near the Clarks Branch Road exit, the driver lost control. The vehicle left the freeway, and the man tried to drive it up a hill, before becoming stuck in a ditch.

Both the driver and the passenger were detained without incident. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Tyler Bryant. Bryant claimed he bought the vehicle 2 days earlier but ran because his license had been revoked. He was also on probation due to other eluding incidents. Bryant was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, driving while suspended and for a warrant. He was detained without bail.
