The Oregon State University Extension Service has its second annual Ag Explorer Days event coming up.

An extension release said it will be held October 2nd and 3rd at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Hosted by the Douglas County Farm Bureau, it will welcome 320 4th graders from Days Creek, Glide, Hucrest, Lookingglass, Melrose, South Umpqua and Yoncalla schools.

Students will embark on a journey through several interactive stations, learning about forages, soils, honeybees, shearing and wool, large animal veterinary practices, beef cattle, 4H and leather working. The hands-on experience will be guided by OSU Extension staff and local producers.

Each student will receive a bag filled with agricultural educational materials and products, while teachers will be given valuable classroom resources, including lesson plans, crafts and award-winning books.

The release said support for the event includes the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Umpqua Valley Beekeepers, Douglas County Livestock Association, Douglas County Fair Board, and a number of other organizations.
