The YMCA of Douglas County is reopening Tuesday after a weeklong closure due to facility enhancements.
A YMCA release said this was not the annual maintenance and improvement closure, but rather was elevated like never before due to tremendous support from the community.
The enhancements include:
*Family Locker Room Remodel – This area was remodeled with all new stalls, fixtures and showers, as well as new tile, flooring, paint and doors.
*Activity Center Remodel – With the support of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, this part of the facility received new furniture, paint and sound panels. A special surprise is being unveiled. It is a nod to Douglas County and the Umpqua River.
*Addition of Child Watch Bathroom – A grant from the Ford Family Foundation made it possible to add a much-needed bathroom to the child watch area. Last year there were over 5,900 visits, serving almost 600 individual children.
*Gymnasium Floors Refinished – After the floors were sanded down to bare wood and resurfaced, all new paint lines were drawn. This provides fresh new colors for basketball, pickleball, volleyball and skate lines on the courts. The floors were restored to the original light oak color.
With a fresh new look, the release said the YMCA has expanded programming coming soon and even more to look forward to heading into the fall.
